Current Status & Future

Currently EvsMinder is used extensively in a number of venues and to date has been used to register hundreds of thousands of event attendees. That is the good news.

The bad news is after having a few people download the code, we have discovered that it is difficult at best for someone unfamiliar with the code to install, setup and actually make use of EvsMinder. While we knew it would be a challenge for a number of reasons it turned out to be much more difficult than originally expected.

While administration EvsMinder is very functional there are some features that have not matured to the point where we would like. As such on occasion we find ourselves having to make changes/updates in a manual fashion by updating the database directly or uploading template files, etc.

Lastly EvsMinder was originally designed and built on a very functional, but home grown library. This approach was taken because at the start there simply was not a library that would have adequately supported all of the functionality required by a completed registration system.

In light of the above mentioned limitations and the fact that there have been many improvements in the PHP code since the start of EvsMinder we are in the process of some major updates/enhancements. One such update is that we are going to migrate EvsMinder to the Zend Framework. We fell confident that this move will greatly improve the supportability of EvsMinder.

Since we are undertaking a major revision to EvsMinder at this time we would very much like to hear from potential users. Challenges that you have experienced with other systems, features that you would most like to see in an opensource registration system, etc, etc.

If after reading the above, you are a seasoned php programmer, experienced with mysql and comfortable with system admin functions in linux, we are looking for a few programmers to test the installation of EvsMinder. Please understand that this is will not be an easy installation and we simply hope to gain feedback from some potential users.
